Aramco Upstream Solutions Technathon: Client Case
Aramco Innovations partnered with tulula to organize Aramco Upstream Solutions Technathon. Aramco Innovations is a subsidiary of the national petroleum and natural gas company Saudi Aramco - the world's largest oil exporter and one of the most profitable companies in the world.
The hackathon attracted talented students, researchers, and tech experts in data science and AI. During the event, they worked in teams and developed innovative 4IR-based solutions for current challenges in the oil and gas industry.
This event was the third hackathon that Aramco Innovations has organized in partnership with us, although it was their first online hackathon on tulula. During the pandemic, Aramco Innovations planned to host an online event to attract tech professionals to their brand. They were searching for a platform where they could hold a hackthon without technical glitches. One of the challenges was finding an online service that would make it easy for participants to form teams, work together online, get feedback from experts, and submit ideas. That’s when they discovered tulula for online competitions.
How did tulula help?
Tulula provided end-to-end management of the hackathon, developed a hackthon project plan and designed a customized competition page. In just a few weeks, we received 198 incoming applications. Thanks to the platform feature that allows participants to easily match up into teams, 77 teams were formed and took part in the hackathon.
One platform feature that Aramco appreciated was the high-quality video conferencing used during the hackathon to deliver webinars, final presentations, and check-ins with mentors.
The organizers also really liked that they could continuously engage with the participants by adding tags and commenting on their ideas in chats and they found very useful hackathon organizing tips that we shared with them:)
By partnering with tulula, Aramco Innovations was able to conduct its third competition flawlessly. They fostered engagement with the tech community and came up with innovative ideas for solving their real-world business challenges. Moreover, this project was selected as a finalist in the “Best Outreach Program Award” category at the World Oil Awards 2020, honoring the upstream industry's top innovations and innovators.
During the hackathon, the organizers were so impressed with the participating tech professionals that they extended a job offer to one of the developers right in the middle of the event. They also had full access to engagement analytics and the participant list to secure a talent pool after the hackathon.
